Horst and Gernot will visit the States and ride Death Valley to Mt. Whitney on September 24, 2009. (4,418 meters) Sept-Oct, 2009 First ever attempt to scale Mt. Whitney from Death Valley nonstop in 24 hours! They will start from -86 meters in the lowest and hottest location of the western hemisphere over Furnace Creek-Lone Pine-Whitney Portal (230 km) followed by trail to the ascent to the top (4,418 meters.)

Goals for 2010:

From the Pacific nonstop to the summit of Aconcagua (6959 meters) in the Andes (Argentina) The first attempt ever made nonstop to the ascent of the highest peak in the Americas. By bike from sea level to 2800 meters and the ascent by foot to 4200 meters in 50 hours.

First Goal Achieved!

Horst and Gernot have a goal of doing nonstop bike ride/climbing of the highest peaks of seven continents. Their first goal, Kilimanjaro in Africa has been conquered!

They have returned home safely. From Gernot: "Horst and I are very, very thankful, satisfied and naturally overjoyed, that our first goal toward our ATOX7Summit Project has been achieved.

From sea level (Tanga on the Indian Ocean) we rode 366 kilometers to Marangu Gate and climbed from there over 4,000 meters on Kilimanjaro, the highest peak on the African continent. The whole journey was achieved in 42 hours and 30 minutes."

ATOX 7 Summits Begins!

Horst and Gernot have undertaken a grand project for the next years. They intend to be the first people to reach the summit of the highest peaks of the 7 continents nonstop. This undertaking will combine the brothers two favorite sports: bike riding and mountain climbing. They will ride from sea level to the highest point possible with their bicycles and will climb the rest of the way to the apex.

They will begin this weekend with Kilimanjaro in Africa, the fourth highest of the 7 peaks. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Horst and Gernot!

What's Next?

The next goal for the Bike Twins is riding and climbing from the Indian Ocean to the ascent of Kilimanjaro, highest peak in Africa, nonstop in 40 hours. This is the first time this has been attempted. They will ride almost 400 kilometers through the Serengeti towards Marangu. From there they will go on foot 36 kilometers to the 5.895 meter summit.
